Large Guatemalan Navy Vessel Enters Belize Waters

Today, a Guatemalan Navy Vessel was sighted in Belizean waters - reportedly less than a mile from the Hunting Caye Forward Operating Base. What was it doing there? Well, we asked the Coast Guard Commander, Admiral Elton Bennett, and he told us he was aware but referred us to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

We did reach out to Minister Francis Fonseca who told us he has been briefed on the matter. He added, quote, "Following established protocol the Belize Coast Guard immediately went to the location of the vessel, identified it as a GAF vessel within Belizean waters, engaged with the crew on board informing them that they were illegally in Belize's Maritime space and successfully escorted them out of our waters." End quote.
