Skywatchers witnessed a solar eclipse today. It was visible over Belize shortly before 3 this afternoon, when the moon blotted out part of the sun. The eclipse was visible across a corridor extending from the South Pacific to the Americas. Solar eclipses occur when the earth, moon and sun line up and the moon casts a shadow over earth. In this part of the world, we won't see another one like this for 7 years.
