It's one of Belize's fastest growing northern communities. But while life in Maxboro may be quiet, it ain't easy. There's no fixed telephone service, no cable and not enough bus runs. But on Sunday, UDP hopeful in the area Edmund Castro brought out the cable, phone and bus companies to a town meeting to try and straighten that out. The meeting was put together so residents could have a way of informing themselves as to how they can access telephone, cable and bus services in the area. The good news coming out of it is that relief is on the way.

Cable Guy,
"We have cable already at Boom cutoff and we are just waiting for some water where the BEL posts run around by where this man Cattouse lives and so forth. The post runs through a little swampy area so we are just waiting for the water to go down to run the cable. Everything takes time. Maxboro is a new community and everything costs so we have to wait for the right time to give the people the cable."

Lynette Canto, BTL
"We basically came out here today to explain to them that service is already available in Maxboro through BTL's wireless technology and that we are presently testing to ensure that we will be able to adequately provide them with internet service. We are hoping that within the next few months, residents of this area will also be able to get internet service through BTL.

Belize is a country which offers its own challenges in terms of how the landscape is laid out and all that so we have been looking at various alternatives and we have found out that wireless technology is an ideal option for areas such as these and that is why we are doing our best to make sure that we implement in Maxboro and in other similar areas throughout the country."

Resident #2,
"We refer to this area as Maxbor-ing because nothing happens back here. We don't have telephone, we don't have cable, and so we are trying to establish that. We are trying to establish a better bus run for the students especially because as you know they only have one bus which leaves from here very early, 6:30 in the morning, and we have one that returns at 5:30 in the evening. Before that bus even leaves from here, it is full and that is a problem for over one hundred commuters that come out of this community."

Resident #3,
"I hope that all these things that they promised here today we will get it. So hopefully 2007 will be prosperous for Maxboro."

As was mentioned, fixed wireless phones are already available in the area, cable will be brought in by December and a school bus to be provided by the National Transportation Services will begin runs on next week Monday.
