Today the Ministry of works held a National Workshop on what sounds like a very complicated subject. It's called "Integrated and Sustainable Logistics and Mobility Policy." We found out that it's not as complicated as it sounds. The CEO explains:

Errol Gentle, CEO, Ministry of Works
"The workshop we will be discussing both the logistics and the mobility. The mobility is getting the road done. The logistics we are looking at the transportation of goods. We need to put policies in place that will ensure there is a smooth movement of people and of goods throughout the country, throughout the region. How can we improve, for example, movement of goods along the highways through our borders? How can we improve the movement of goods, movement of services, provision of services through the ports or through the airports?"

Representative
"Drugs and busses and cars are going in the same route. Then you need to think in one thing - the mobility, the logistics."

Errol Gentle
"After the coastal road is completed, you need to look at, for example, the type of vehicles that will be going over it. You have to look at the load, the axle weight and there has to be policies, there has to be regulation in place. We always talk about building road, but what we don't discuss much is the maintenance of the road. But if there is no police in place, if there is no legislation to address these types of concerns, then it's no use building the road."

Representative
"How is the way for countries for going from searching the development stage to the higher one? Better policies of logistics and mobility create a new environment, a new scenario for higher development for countries."

In other news from the Ministry of Works and Transport, today, officials from the Ministry met with the Head of the Caribbean Regional Office for the European Investment Bank, Mr. Rene Perez to look at potential projects for financing.

Potential Projects include:

- - Replacing of Pueblo Nuevo and Laguna Seca Ferries with bridges as well as paving of the Sarteneja Road
- - Paving of San Estevan/Progresso Road
- - Paving of Old Northern Highway
- - Construction of Bus Terminal in Orange Walk
- - Construction of a bridge over Belize river linking St Paul's Bank with Big Falls.

Now, we stress, talks are only at a preliminary stage and nothing has been confirmed.
