We questioned the minister at an event held at the Coast Guard headquarters. The US Embassy handed over six boat engines to equip refurbished boats for the Coast Guard's fleet. They also received night-time equipment to assist with patrols after dark.

The Charge d' Affairs, Keith Gilges, commented that rather than a donation, it is an investment in Belize's security forces. Both Minister Florencio Marin Jr and Commandant of the Coast Guard Gregory Soberanis were at the ceremony and also commented on the importance of the handing over.
