And those are the worrying numbers heading into the three-day tenth weekend - which is usually a time for merry making and partying.
But, the police say - don't even try it!
A release from the department, quote "warns the public of the risk associated with mass gathering and social events." It continues, quote, "As we approach the September holidays, we are seeing a number of advertisements promoting social events having the potential of drawing mass gatherings all over the country and in particular within the Coastal Communities. The general public is warned that Statutory Instrument No. 74 of 2021 (restricts) any social event, in numbers of more than 10 persons at a time who are not of the same household." End quote. It adds, "(Regulations also restrict) any private gathering which includes any person from outside your immediate household and any recreational event." End quote.
So, bottom line? Events being promoted on social media and otherwise are prohibited and the police is asking the general public not to host or attend these events.
It adds, quote, "Anyone found in violation of these regulations will be dealt with to the full extent of the law."
