The procurement of the equipment comes from the long promised, much delayed 60 million dollar project, the Belize Integral Security Program, which was approved in 2015 and funded by CABEI. This program seeks to strengthen citizen security through investment in infrastructure and equipment for public institutions responsible for national security.
But, its implementation got off to a terribly slow start under the UDP, and today at the signing, the CEO in the Ministry of Defence, Dario Tapia, said that they're delivering from CABEI funds that the previous administration was unable to unlock:
