And while counselling will be provided in schools, the people who may also be in need the mental relief are the homeowners who have sustained major damages to their properties.

Tonight those damages within the city are quantifiable both in the number of homes and the value of their damages. Our Sunup hosts got the exact figures for Belize City this morning when they sat down for a conversation with Mayor Bernard Wagner.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City

"We just received those figures late last night based on the damage assessment committee and we have like 1,664 damaged properties in Belize City. They rate them category one two three four with 1 being no significant damage that was like 549 residential properties which really when you quantify it it's like in the neighborhood per property so if you do 549 times 5,000 average you get like $2.7 million with the category one damage then we have the category two damage which is minor damage the structure is still reusable and we had 550 of those again and we quantify it by 10,000s per property and that would work out to 5.5 million and then we go to the category three which is major damage structure not useable we had 384 of those right, and we quantify that to roughly $7.7 million and then we had 181 properties completely destroyed, can't be used again it has to be re-built and that was 181 o we did that by 30,000 average for someone probably to put up back a home. I know our government and the MIDH is really looking at building back better ok, building back concrete homes for those residents who lost everything. We don't want to put back a wooden structure but we'd rather…"

Host:
"Can you give us the overall figure then?"

Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City
"The overall figure is roughly in the neighborhood of 21.1 million."

Host:
"Wow in the city alone."

Today, the BTB donated $50,000 to Mayor Wagner to assist Belize City residents whose homes were extensively damaged by Hurricane Lisa.
