The government of Belize has made a global appeal for relief after Hurricane Lisa.

In a letter to the diaspora and the diplomatic community, the Prime Minister says the initial losses are estimated at 10 million US dollars. He has attached a damage assessment and needs analysis which includes food, sanitary items, stationery items, construction materials and toys as well as common medicines. It also includes, NEMO's initial situation assessment report, noting that Belize City's 94 thousand residents were the most affected by the storm. It says that 500 houses were destroyed, and 5,00 partially destroyed in the Belize District and losses to the housing sector are valued at 20 million Belize dollars.

It adds that the government is requesting 11 million US dollars to meet only immediate needs and to provide basic food, household supples and construction material to affected persons.

The government of Japan announced today that it will respond with emergency relief goods including Generators, Sleeping Pads, Blankets, and other items.
