And when the ComPol was asked today about the death of yet another officer in a traffic accident, he said that while the police are doing what they can to reduce these incidents, it is up to the drivers to follow the rules of the road. He explained that no amount of checkpoints can help if drivers insist on breaking the law once the police are out of sight.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"There is a lot that we have been doing to try to reduce road traffic accidents, but again it is something that persons need to take individual responsibility in how they use the road. You would know that we have increase presence on the highway doing more highway patrol, doing more road policing, but the accidents persist, because when people pass these checkpoints and they are out of police view they continue to behave in the way that is dangerous to themselves and other road users. So, individual drivers need to take more responsibility."
