And while there are many changes Fraser would have wanted to make, we asked her about the things she did accomplish during her time as Chief Magistrate.
Here's what she hopes will be said about her efforts long after she leaves the bench.
Sharon Frazer, Chief Magistrate
"My hope would have been that, I would have left the bench knowing that I was fair to those who came before me; I dispensed justice as I would have expected anyone who would have come before the court to at least left with that, that even besides whatever sentence I would have passed that I know that they would have been of the belief that I was fair. In fact I was able to improve the way we do business, most recently we have set in a new case management system so that we can look at accountability, look at the cases the age of the cases, how I would have been able to, or whoever sits after me would have been able to view all the district courts, look at the cases look at the age and then inquire but why is this matter before the court? So that system has been set up. This should have gone along with the backlog of cases initiative that I in fact put in place along with that of the adjournment policy and to try to get rid of these constant adjournments and adjournments. So, those things are in fact in place and I am just hoping that it can be sustained because a lot of people come here and don't come here because they want to be here. They come here because they have to be here, and they have come here with some cases over the years for matters to be addressed, in the meantime, they would have, persons would have died, persons would have changed jobs, babies would have been born and several things would have happened during the time that persons have been coming here and in some cases, they might have come here initially as a bad boy and at this point now they would be in a position where their lives have changed because as I said babies might have been born, you get a new job and they change their life."
Fraser expects to teach during her retirement. She says her work at UWI and Galen Universities has been her way of giving back.
