For months, we've been pressing for updates on the refurbishment of the Sarstoon Forward Operating Base. It was first brought to light back in July of 2022 where the deteriorating structure was on the verge of collapsing into the sea. What once was the Focal point for the BDF guarding the Sarstoon was deemed uninhabitable and was basically abandoned. That has changed though, as of today, when we learned via press release that the FOB has been re-opened.
Though the media was not informed or invited, the Minister of Defence and the Minister Foreign Affairs cut the ribbon today. Here's what they told the government press office.
When we asked him why the media was blocked out of the reopening of the base which has been so much in the news, Foreign Minister Fonseca told us that they will have a formal opening of the new facilities to which the media will be invited. We then assume today's one - ribbon cutting and all - was just a pre-election special.
