Last week made four years since four BDF soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash. The attorney for the wives of the two corporals told us that after all this time, they still had not been compensated. While the government has accepted fault, they cannot agree on a figure.
The BDF has since explained via a press release that the government has been trying to reach a resolution and provide closure, however, quote, "the process has not been successfully completed due to the lack of consensus among the beneficiaries and stakeholders of the estates of these airmen and the GOB." End quote.
They said that GOB has settled all legal and estate matters with the families of Majors Adran Ramirez and Radford Baizar, but even after a court-mediated settlement was proposed to the families of the other two soldiers, a final settlement could not be reached. The settlement they proposed exceeded the original $100,000 and included monthly benefits to the children of the deceased airmen until they reached the age of 18. This was refused by the claimants.
The release also states that the matter has reached a stalemate in both negotiations and mediation, but that any and all government benefits that the corporals were entitled to have always been available and payable to their estates.
The matter now awaits to be continued in the high court before a newly appointed judge.
