The enforcement of the new traffic regulations has kicked into high gear with checkpoints and tickets. The sudden crackdown comes after a 3 month grace period during which very little public awareness was done.
But, now the hammer is down - and this morning we saw checkpoints on the busiest thoroughfares like Cemetery Road at the height of the rush hour. Drivers were being cautioned - we are told - and some also ticketed.
And the government is always warning the many operators of its vast fleet of vehicles to buckle up. A memorandum from government's Car Czar Ashton Longsworth warns drivers of those "B" plates to buckle up and put down the cell phone.
As we have reported, in December of 2023, new traffic laws were introduced to require that ALL persons in a motor vehicle must wear seat belts AT ALL TIMES, and that drivers cannot be on their cellphones and must use a hands free device while operating a motor vehicle.
