And the media also asked Musa for an update on his national tour of the police precincts. He explained that there are major changes coming regarding police mobility and some brand new stations.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"I already raised this issue, with the prime minister at the National Security Council level. And it is my hope to have a cabinet paper prepared in terms of the resources. It's not just mobility. It's also updating our computer systems, at all of our missions across the country. And so we are hoping, that that will be approved in the coming months, that we can get a fleet of vehicles, for mobility across the country."
Reporter:
"And then we know that some of the police stations across the country are being looked at. Can you tell us what's the plan there?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"Yeah. So last year we were able to do repairs to 13 police stations all across Belize. In our tour. That is one of the things that we have noted, that there are additional repairs that need to be conducted, as in Raccoon Street, which I heard was recently approved by the Ministry of Finance. So that will be going ahead. We have new police stations that will be coming in Santa Elena, Caye Caulker, Bella Vista, Orange Walk and Corozal. And so we're excited for these new and modern police stations, creating a nice working environment for our police officers and truck on cars."
Reporter:
"Are they in the towns themselves?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"Yes. The towns themselves. Orange Walk in the town exactly where the location is. And we recently obtained title to a property in Corozal that we will be constructing a new police station because, as you know, the existing station does not belong to the police department."
