After months of protest and public disputes, the KHMH and its union along with the Ministry of Labour today jointly announced the successful settlement of the pension issue at the Hospital.
A joint press release says, quote, "Through a process of structured dialogue and mediation facilitated by the Labour Commissioner and her team, the parties have signed an Agreement that provides for an ex-gratia payment to qualifying employees (who) will receive payment by December 31, 2025, and former employees will be paid by December 31, 2026, upon proof of employment."
The release waxes by saying, "This joint achievement demonstrates the power of social dialogue in resolving complex workplace issues in essential services…this Agreement is a milestone in Belize's labour relations…."
