Turning back to Minister Usher, we also asked him about the recent controversy about the hangar area of Belize City. It's a public swimming area - but also a free for all recreation spot. It was recently revealed that area residents had made a bid to purchase the land and effectively close down the hangar - citing that fact that it is a public nuisance - host to all types of late night excess. That proposal was flatly rejected by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Usher - who is the Fort George area rep says keep it open - by all means:

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service, Governance, and Disaster Risk Management
"Well the hangar is not in Fort George, it is Caribbean Shores, I believe. But certainly I support that you should have, the public should have access to that area that is one of the very few areas that the public has access to the beach front. So certainly I was very disappointed to hear that certain persons were signing petitions to subdivide it or to block it off. I am not familiar with what is being done but I have always reported just like Belizean beach I believe it should be an area that the public is able to enjoy."

The area had recently been blocked to vehicular traffic with planters, but the City Council has removed those and best reports say they are unlikely to return.
