Superintendent of Police Aaron Gamboa, he became a household name during his recent school bag drive. But on Saturday he became a national sensation for something far less special.

Gamboa's US visa was revoked. He went to the airport on Saturday with his wife to board a flight to the US. But, that's where Gamboa learned that his visa had been pulled. His wife was permitted to fly.

Gamboa told us he believes that the visa was flagged based on the Joseph Budna abduction, where SPU officers were allegedly involved - and he is the unit's commanding officer. He told us he has, quote "nothing to do with the Budna thing, I'm clean."

A US Embassy rep told us, quote, "visas regularly get revoked." End quote. He added that the embassy cannot make comments on specific visa approvals or rejections, but added, quote, "After issuance of a visa, if the Department becomes aware of new, potentially adverse information, a consular officer reviews that information to determine whether the applicant remains eligible for a visa." End quote.

And with that high profile revocation, there have been wild rumors of many others in law enforcement and politics. But, again, there is no confirmation on any of that - and based on our information we can say that there is nothing to suggest that there has been any targeting or specific escalation of visa revocations in Belize. We will keep following it closely.
