Will your water supply be cut off? That was the story all over the city this afternoon as our newsroom was flooded with calls from concerned consumers who heard that BWSL was going on strike immediately. Well here's what we can tell you tonight: there are credible reports that the water pressure has been somewhat diminished in some areas of the city, but the supply is uninterrupted. Second, the utility unions have been discussing interruptions of supply since last week and there are indications that it is still being discussed as one way to force the government to relent from its plan to introduce new taxes.

And, in this regard, the Public Service Union has its own plans. The PSU today put in place a government wide go-slow and work-to-rule as a protest against government's planned tax increases and wage increment restraints. PSU President Dylan Reneau told 7NEWS this evening today's action was a message to the Musa administration that "we mean business." Reneau says he believes the effort was successful as correspondences were faxed to all government departments. We know that it worked at government's top collection office, the Customs Department here in Belize City, because business owners called to complain because their containers could not be cleared. According to our information, the output from that department alone was less than half of what it normally is.
