Today for the first time in three days there has been calm across the city. But that doesn't mean it's over- workers groups continue to agitate for the Prime Minister to resign. The majority of BTL workers today completed one entire week sitting out of work as police continue to occupy the grounds of the Esquivel Telecom Center. And while they sit out of work, BTL technicians are working and they have restored the fiber optic cable that connects Belize to Belmopan. So far, investigations show that saboteurs burrowed holes into the ground, got down to the fiber optic cable and cut it in multiple locations. With the fiber restored to Western Belize, long distance calls can be made between Belize City and the capital. Additionally today, Digicell service re-connected with the hard line network. BTL technicians will now go to work on the fiber network to the north which has also been damaged. Also, today, the Prime Minister called the leaders of the Belize Communication Workers Union to the Central Bank for a meeting to work towards a resolution. As we have reported, the union is demanding that the Prime Minister extend a sovereign guarantee for them to access credit to buy 37% of the company's shares which is valued at close to US35 million. Later on in the newscast we'll tell you how that meeting went.
