On Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister said she had to go, but Narda Garcia showed up to work again today at Social Security Headquarters in Belmopan. As we noted, the mechanics and terms of her departure are problematic because it's not clear if she will resign, which will likely disqualify her from seeking legal redress against the decision, or if she will wait to be fired by the board when it meets tomorrow, or, a third option, if she will wait to have the Board offer her a compensation package for her resignation. All those scenarios are in play, but in the interim, Garcia has made it clear to her managers and senior staff that she is going.
Tomorrow, the Board will meet without Chairman Yasin Shoman who resigned yesterday, saying that he admits, "no fiduciary negligence or misconduct whatsoever." Shoman also stated that: "the report manifests the inability of the...committee to grasp the nature of the complex transactions they were...investigating."
Four days after it was posted on freeBelize.org, that report was released by the government today. If you want to hear more of its findings, we'll have that later on in tonight's newscast.
