FFB President Dr. Bertie Chimilio returned form the World Cup in Germany under attack. And tonight three members of the Football Federation of Belize are suspended and facing possible expulsion for allegedly trying to overthrow FFB President Chimilio.
The allegation against is that on June 9th Ray Davis, Dr. Miguel Rosado, and Marlon Kuylen, all FFB execs, stormed into the FFB's headquarters in Belmopan and assaulted the caretaker. It is alleged they broke into Chimilio's office and removed documents. All this allegedly happened while Chimilio was in Germany for the World Cup.
Chimilio returned to the country one week ago to the news that an extraordinary general meeting to elect new officers was scheduled for this Saturday. Chimilio has put the three execs before a disciplinary committee and has announced that there will be no general meeting on Saturday.
Marlon Kuylen told us that they didn't break into the building. He says as FFB execs they had authority to enter the office and they did so with the help of police. Moreover he says they didn't call the general meeting, the members did. Kuylen says there are minutes to prove that. He notes that new officers should have been elected from December but Chimilio refuses to face an open election.
This evening Chimilio told us elections aren't due until 2007. Chimilio says there will be no meeting on Saturday but Kuylen says Chimilio doesn't have a choice. If Chimilio doesn't hold the meeting, FIFA and CONCACAF will be petitioned.
As for the June 9th incident, Chimilio says a police report has been filed in relation to the incident. He declined to say more, stating that the matter will be dealt with internally. Chimilio has been president of the FFB for the past 8 years. If re-elected it will be another 4 year term.
