Today Opposition Leader Barrow warned the Prime Minister that though the UDP is not physically supporting the unions, with so much mass opposition to his administration, it is in Barrow's words, a powder keg waiting to be lit.
Hon. Dean Barrow, UDP Leader
"The UDP is not joining formally in the protest that the unions will initiate tomorrow Madam Speaker, right here in Belmopan, right in front of this National Assembly, even as the budget debate continues. We are concentrating on the village council elections which start this Sunday and run for the next two months. And we also know Madam Speaker that we are sitting on a powder keg.
The UDP is determined not to be or contribute to the spark that can, even though the inevitable democratic change is only months away, the spark that can ignite the conflagration and set loose the hell fire and damnation.
But we don't control the people Madam Speaker. We can't stop the unions and the Prime Minister cocooned by a disconnect that in the circumstances is simply amazing, seems to have no idea of the anger that is burning out there."
