And while Barrow accused the Prime Minister of being in a cocoon unaware of popular sentiment, the PM showed he's right in step with the times when he answered questions from Barrow on Christine Perriot's firing. The Perriot firing is, after all, the cause for this union agitation, and the Prime Minister said that he agrees, BTL was union busting when it fired Christine.

Hon. Dean Barrow,
"Will the Prime Minister say whether he shares and supports the position taken by his Minister of Labor with respect to BTL's termination of Christine Perriot and will he say in particular whether he agrees that it was, in quotation marks, an act of bad faith, close quotation, and a seeming attempt at union busting?"

Rt. Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister
"Yes and yes to both questions Madam Speaker. I will only add that my government fully supports the unceasing efforts of the Honorable Minister of Labor in his attempt to resolve the labor issues of BTL according to the applicable law."

Hon. Dean Barrow,
"Will the Prime Minister say whether his People's United Party shares and supports the position taken by his Albert, Collet, and Lake I standard bearers on BTL's termination of Christine Perriot and if the party does share the position, why it has not issued a party statement to that effect?"

Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"Madam Speaker the PUP has its roots in the labor movement, unlike others created to serve the interests of big business. The PUP as a party has already expressed our strong disappointment with the timing of BTL's actions in the dismissal of Miss Perriot. The position taken by the three divisions is consistent with our party's position."

And we'll have more from Belmopan and the budget debate when we come back.
