And while the Opposition will not officially be marching with the unions tomorrow, today the UDP had to put in some work to ensure that there is something to protest against.
The budget debate started this morning, and was scheduled to run for two days. But it seems that the government side would have wished to wrap it up in one day, thereby avoiding having to face the protest tomorrow. The presentations for the government side were moving along swiftly, and by 3:00 pm, nearly half of the 21 had finished their presentations.
That's when Collet Area Representative Patrick Faber claims that the Prime Minister was trying to stand to wind up the debate. So Faber stood, and announced to the house that he would filibuster - that is make a three hour presentation and extend the meeting until 6:00 pm - thus forcing a second day of protest.
Faber launched into a fiery presentation, and while he raged, the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader discussed it in the back - and the PM agreed that Faber didn't have to go all three hours, he would agree to adjourn early today and extend it until tomorrow. With that Faber wrapped after an hour, and with one more presenter form the government side, the day's session ended at 4:30. It will continue at 10 tomorrow - with the union agitation in the background.
