The Fort George Resource Center on Gabourel Lane – it sits on the piece of land that used to be the Labour Office – and when the UDP government took over – they thought that it was a government building. But it’s not; it’s owned by the Fort George Community Association, a not for profit NGO set up by area representative and former Prime Minister Said Musa. But the UDP has cried foul, because it was built mostly with money from the Social Investment Fund and on public land. That land though was conveyed to the association for a nominal price.

So who owns the association? Well today Opposition Leader Said Musa told us that it is owned by a group of people living in Fort George and he stressed, that does not include himself or any of his relatives. He also rejected the characterization that it is a misuse or misappropriation of public property, because he says it is managed by the community and a number of community projects are run inside the building. And Musa says he will continue to run his clinic out of the office he set up in there.

And as for the Broadcasting Authority Office which is housed inside, Musa says the Association doesn’t intend to charge them rent.
