Time's almost ticked off the clock for the Barrow Administration, but they got in one more opening in yesterday in Belmopan. That's the unveiling of the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, known as the Leigh Richardson Building. Richardson was a pioneer of the nationalist movement, spent time in jail for sedition - essentially as a political prisoner of her Majesty - and became one of the first Belizeans who represented Belize officially in international affairs abroad.

And now his name is on the first-ever purpose built headquarters for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the history of Belize - and it was gifted to Belize from the Government of Taiwan.

In his last act in office, Belize's longest serving foreign minister Minister, Wilfred Elrington says it's a dream come true:

Thursday's brief ceremony - to which the media wa snot invited - was marked by the conferral of the Grand Medal of Diplomacy by ambassador Remus Chen on Minister Elrington.

Notably, On Tuesday, PUP's John Briceno, Julius Espat, and Eamon Courtenay alleged mishandling of the contract for these new Headquarters, which International Environments Limited has been hired to build.
