The Cabinet also had an announcement today in a briefing from Tuesday;s Cabinet meeting.
First, that press conference we told you about at the top of the news will be held tomorrow by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat to present the new COVID-19 measures after they were approved in the meeting.
Cabinet also approved a request made by Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs, for the recruitment of Intake 95 was approved. This will increase the ranks of the Police Department by 225 new constables and will commence in January 2021.
The Cabinet also approved the formation of a committee to be led by Andre Perez, the Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, to review and develop standard operating procedures for passenger entry at the PGIA. This is being done ahead of a significant increase of arrivals that is projected for the next few months in order to make the process more efficient.
Minister of Human Development, Dolores Balderamos Garcia, briefed the Cabinet on the roll out of the Belize COVID-19 Cash Transfer Program (BCCAT). Minister Garcia informed her colleagues that the program, which is being funded by the World Bank, has begun accepting applications for relief assistance to eligible people who are not already receiving assistance through BOOST and the COVID Food Assistance Program.
