The PUP has occupied City Hall from 2018, swept into office after 12 years of a UDP rule in the city. And, this coming weekend, the PUP's delegates will select from close to 30 hopefuls to select its new slate.
Being that the PUP is in Central Government in Belmopan - conventional wisdom may say that the PUP is favoured in the upcoming municipal election.
But, that's not stopping the UDP form getting a headstart on the campaign trail. They selected their candidates 8 days ago and have been campaigning across the city. Over the weekend, they were in the Port Loyola area meeting the residents. Today, they made their way to the Queen Square area where Courtney Menzies met up with them. Here is that story.
In the 2018 Municipal Elections, turnout was low countrywide, where only 57.23% of voters turned out. But it was lowest in the city where only 50% of the registered voters came out. And, this year, the voters also have to consider COVID concerns before they come out to vote.
