We also asked the minister about the Public Service Commission. As we've reported there's currently a deadlock between the PSC and the government. 5 members of the PSC had written to the Governor General, telling him that they have not been able to carry out their work since November, and that the Minister requested that they tendered their resignations. But they refused to resign and today Minister Usher said their refusal is making the government's job that much harder.

Hon. Henry Charles Usher

"As to the Public Service Commission, as the Prime Minister has said publicly it is important that the commissioners, the chairman and the commissioners understand that we expected them to step down when the government changed and perhaps maybe some of them would have been reappointed. But the appointment or the advice has to come from the Prime Minister to the Governor-General. The Governor-General appoints the members of the commission but it comes after the advice from the Prime Minister. This Prime Minister is being held back he can't event give advice to make his recommendations to the Governor-General and we feel that that is not the way it should have been done and we expect the chairman and the commissioners to step down in due course."
