Special Envoy for Women and Children Rossana Briceno is speaking out to condemn all cyberbullying against women. This after the reported circulation of a quote: "very disturbing and disgraceful video with sexual undertones" depicting a young woman who is getting involved in electoral politics.
A release from The Special Envoy's office tonight advises against victim-blaming insisting instead, that the perpetrators are to be held solely responsible.
Briceno says that the barriers keeping women out of office are political, socioeconomic, ideological, and psychological. And that this act quote: "Not only casts aspersions on the woman's character but grossly demonstrates how women are attacked and sexualized when they choose to enter into the field of politics."
And tonight, she's calling on all those institutions who work with women and girls to condemn cyberbullying and to support organizations that guide women in professional and political arenas. She's also calling on the authorities to stop the sharing of this video, investigate who is responsible, and charge them under the relevant legislation.
