So far tonight we've shown you nomination day activities in the city and the north - but candidates in the West were in fine form this morning as they accepted their nominations and officially got their names on the ballot in their city or town.
Our news team started out in Belmopan where - come what may - the City is about to have its first female Mayor.
And, when we spoke to the PUP candidate Sharon Palacio she told us that all her campaigning has shown her that the people are supportive of the idea of a woman in charge. She also spoke on the importance of nomination day.
Sharon Palacio, Mayoral Candidate
"Nomination day is very important, which validates us we're now officially on the ballot and we now must continue the journey and ensure that we do our homework meeting these voters as much as possible to ensure victory on March 3rd, a historic date."
"We're living in a patriarchal society, most women are scared to even enter politics I must say that I have family support and Mrs. Glenis Williams became the deputy campaign manager we went to the convention, she and Cedric Borland, they work tirelessly with our campaigners and I was scared to go to the convention I must say, because I've seen convention, I've seen how it goes, but this is the time whereby I think people are supportive of a woman to lead."
"On the campaign trail I can see that people are crying out for land, it is very sad to hear from these young people, some of them even in tears that they are not given that opportunity, the last time land was issued to the residents of Belmopan was under Mayor Channona's leadership and I was right there and I was very sad to see what's happening that people are crying out for land and they're crying out for jobs and I believe, especially since the Prime Minister made me a board member on the Reconstrcution Development Corporation board and we've already started a process of identifying 50 acres of land and immediately after occupying office we will embark on a housing project because under the People's United Party, that's what we do and the slogan that we have in place is changed from the heart."
Palacio was nominated by a family friend and her firstborn son. She is a former senior staffer at the University of Belize and a psychologist who resided in Cuba for over six years.
