During Friday's debate, Prime Minister Briceno also responded to the UDP critics who say that his government is wasting money for the purchase of new vehicles for Ministers.
He said that by his count, only 13 new vehicles have been purchased, and he thinks that they are all justified. Here are those comments:
Hon. John Briceno - Prime Minister
"Speaking about vehicles, I don't know where the Member for Mesopotamia got that we spent 20 million dollars on vehicles. You must be on something because I don't know where you get 20 million dollars."
"Let me state here for the record that since coming to office, my administration has purchased 5 vehicles, five. Half of our ministers and CEO are driving their personal vehicles because we have not gone out on a major spending spree on vehicles."
"And the other vehicles that we have purchased, Madam Speaker, they are for the Ministry of the Police and the Ministry of Health. That's all. I have the list here, 5 for ministers, 1 attorney general, 2 [for the] police department, 1 for the Blue Economy, for Hon. Mike Espat, which he is paying, 1 for my office, 1 for the police department, another one for the police department. That's all the vehicles that we have bought. So I'll count it for you, 13 vehicles we bought. That is the record, Mr. Caretaker."
