Back in February, the Briceno Government went to the House of Representatives to pass an amendment to the standing orders of the House of Representatives.
They wanted to reform and reconstitute the Public Accounts Committee, to surrender majority control over the House Committee that is supposed to provide transparency in public spending. The amendment increased the PAC's membership from 6 to 9, and specifically, it allowed for the addition of 3 social partner senators.
Well yesterday, the Clerk of the National Assembly sent out a press release to note that the newly constituted Joint Public Accounts Committee held its first meeting. UDP's Tracy Taegar-Panton was officially nominated as the Chairperson of the JPAC.
The other members include PUP's Julius Espat, Kareem Musa, Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, and Kevin Bernard, and UDP's Hugo Patt. They are serving along with the Social Partner Senators Kevin Herrera, Elena Smith, and Osmany Salas.
Absent from yesterday's meeting were Musa, Balderamos-Garcia, and Patt.
