But we asked Faber how he will work on rebuilding his party, especially since we know the internal turmoil continues. He said that he is willing to work with anyone, and whoever doesn't feel the same, well, good riddance. He believes they need to put this behind them and focus on forming a unified front against the PUP.
Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Party Leader
"Firstly we'd have to work on the unity and I want to be clear that unity means that we'll have to work with those who are interested in working in unity. There are some who may feel like my victory today will cause them to not want to move on and if they absolutely feel that they can't work with me, I'd hope that they'd walk away so that we can embrace those who are serious about rebuilding the party and for me it is that I am willing to embrace anybody who is serious about working for this party and moving this party forward and that doesn't mean a new direction, I think that anybody who still has their head buried in the sand and believes that the people in this country di not send a very loud and clear message to the UDP that it needs to change and it can't be the same old same old from pre November 11th then we have missed the boat. So I'm willing to engage anybody, I have no hatred or no dislike for anybody who may have gone against me in this convention we're all UDP's and my task now is to make sure we're strong as ever and ready to face whenever an election is called but also tackle now the many atrocities that the PUP is raining down against our country."
"The first step would be for us to be reunited in terms of our parliamentary push. I think for everybody to see that the last meeting we were not united and that because of the type of rift that was brought on, certainly I would not encourage the continuation of that. I am the leader of this party and the party governs all of our members and so I would hope that those who sit on the parliament understand that we serve the democratic party, we are elected under the united democratic party banner and that we must unite and I think that it is in that unification that we will once again be a formidable force to work against the PUP. As I said I think there are numerous issues right now pending, tomorrow in fact we have house committee meeting to deal with several of those bills that were introduced at the last house meeting, I'm told we have a house meeting again on the 21st of July which is a Wednesday which is an abnormal date, we normally have meetings on Fridays, which means we have to hit the ground running, tomorrow I'll be bogged down in the house committee meetings for much of the day but it means that we must get back to business and that business means the business of the nation as an opposition party but it also means the business of rebuilding the UDP."
