And while the San Pedro police took their shots voluntarily - those who do not wish to do so may be forced into it.

Yesterday's Cabinet brief announced that the "Attorney General…(was tasked to) explore all… legal measures that the government may lawfully implement to … implement mandatory coronavirus vaccinations for both the public and private sectors or to require vaccination passes for the use of public spaces and for business facilities." End quote.

The UDP issued a release today opposing that. The party says that while it encourages Belizeans to take the vaccine and supports vaccination passes, they say taking the vaccines must be voluntary. The release continues that, quote, "the idea of mandating any person to take a vaccine violates their most sacred constitutional norms, including respect for the inviolability of the body, protection of human dignity, freedom of choice and protection of personal privacy." End quote.

The UDP Parliamentary Caucus will engage with the government and social partners on this matter and have tasked their legal advisors to look into the legalities of mandating the taking of the vaccine.
