UDP Deputy Chairman Alberto August took off his red hat today when he requested - as a private citizen - a permit to hold a protest at next Tuesday's House Meeting.
In what he calls, quote, the "Movement of the People Demonstration to Save the Nation" - he was inviting all to travel to Belmopan with their placards to protest, the quote, "raising cost of fuel, the raising cost of living, raising rate of crime, official corruption, (and the) demand for the immediate restoration, with retroactive payment, of the 10% cut from the salaries of public officers, teachers, police personnel and all persons paid from the public purse." End quote.
He put all this in a letter to the Commissioner of Police who, we are told, rejected the request - presumably due to COVID regulations. And, we note that August who is known as a very eager political beaver - went out on his own and did not invoke the name of the UDP - because, reports suggest, the leader-less party has not decided to protest at this time.
