And while the minister says Brackett's media background may qualify him for the job, the UDP chairman wants to know: what exactly IS an information consultant?
Reporter
"What's your opinion on the appointment of Geovannie Brackett as the information consultant in the press office?"
Mike Peyrefitte, UDP Chairman
"Absolute foolishness. What is an information consultant? what is even that? What is that CIA special brancj police? What do you need to consult about to get information? There is an entire government press office that does that job. I think it was Chanell 7 that give a wonderful story that it takes some teachers and some police officers to work 25 years to make $42,000 a year and here you have an activist who clearly, I don't know what the inspiration is, I don't know what is behind it, but you employ this person for $42,000. Inject that $42,000 a year into the public service system. $42,000 can do a lot other than just hiring a person to what in particular - I would like to know what exactly is the job title. What exactly is he supposed to do and it is a slap in the face to the public servants some of whom will never earn that in their lifetime no matter how long they work for government. It is as if though the government is saying we don't care about the struggles that you go through working daily in the government service. If we want to employ someone because we have some purpose we want to achieve, we will do it."
