Tonight, UDP senator Micheal Peyriffete is calling on fellow senator Collet Montejo to vacate his seat.
That's after Peyriffite discovered what he calls a constitutional violation perpetrated by Montejo.
That violation? Montejo's acceptance of his appointment as Field Supervisor for Belize's pending redistricting exercise.
And in a letter to the Governor-General dated yesterday, Peyfitte claims that Montejo should have rejected the appointment. Here's how he described his position when he spoke via zoom to the press.
Peyrifiette says he's giving quote: "respect to the offices of the Governor-General" and asking her to inform the Prime Minister that Montejo is acting quote: "contrary to the constitution of the country." and that he should be replaced with someone else.
The gist of the matter is that in Peyfitte's perspective Montejo will have to give up one of his desired positions he quotes: "cannot keep both.'
