The work of the People's Constitutional Commission has officially started, kicking off with their inaugural meeting today. 20 out of 23 commissioners were present, along with most of their alternates, and while the morning was used for presentations, the afternoon session included discussions on the mandate of the commission, developing the work plan and road map, and approaching the establishment of technical committees.
But with almost two dozen differing personalities, biases, beliefs, and opinions, will the commission be able to get meaningful work done? We asked the PCC's chairman, Anthony Chanona.
And the day started with a meet and greet, which saw each commissioner and alternates present introduce themselves and give a brief presentation on what they expect from the committee. Here is a snippet of some of the groups represented.
It should be noted that the signing of the Oath of Office was delayed due to disagreements in the wording.
And Chanona also mentioned that some groups, like the PUP, have yet to appoint their commissioner.
