There is contention once again at the Port Of Belize - which today resulted in a work stoppage and a ship not being unloaded.

It came after stevedores took back what they call a measure of good faith and decided to revert to working hours stipulated in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between the PBL and CWU.

And It caused the Port this morning to put into effect what the CWU called a lock out, effectively stopping stevedores from working to unload a major cargo ship that had come in.

And while there were stirrings of industrial action in the air this morning they don't seem to have come to fruition. Instead the CWU moved to make peaceful negotiations and by this afternoon, we saw what looked like one gang on its way back to work.

Of course the problem remains that the CWU sees PBL's, quote: "refusal to comply with the Essential Services Arbitration Tribunal's Order to negotiate a settlement with the Christian Workers Union an act of bad faith." end quote.

Will keep following this story to keep you informed of its developments in the next few days.
