This morning, UDP Chairman Mike Peyrefitte had a small press briefing in response to an interview given yesterday by an investor. We'll have that shortly. But, first, we asked him whether gun were for sale when he was minister. Our reports say the practice of gun licenses for sale goes back deep into the UDP years - and maybe even before that. Peyrefitte was only police minister of about 10 months - but we asked him if there was any report of it under this tenure:

Jules Vasquez:
"Did you know of the sale of gun licenses while you were a minister? Is it something that excited any attention from your ministerial oversight?"

Mike Peyrefitte, Former Police Minister

"Well, nobody came to me about the purchasing of any gun licenses. We got no reports, whether from professional standards, whether from Special Branch, to indicate that anything like this was happening. Because you can only buy it if someone is selling it. And for the ten months, the same commissioner that's commissioner now was commissioner then. So he would have to answer you on that, because the story that you run indicates clearly that if it's not the commissioner and there's no evidence that there is, there has to be, at the very least someone very high up who is participating in the scheme. But I go further than that."

"You can't stop at Chester. Where is Kareem Musa? Where's the police minister? Where is his CEO? Where is the Prime Minister? The commissioner didn't appoint himself, and as long as he continues to be commissioner, it is because John Briceno is satisfied with his performance. So John Briceno has no issue with what's going on. Kareem Musa., Stevie Wonder could see, doesn't have the testicular fortitude to be Police Minister."

"He needs to go do something else that he can handle and blame is on Kareem as well, because he's constitutionally responsible for police and public, publicly answerable for police, he's the one who is ultimately responsible. Minister Musa what's going on in your ministry? Summon Miss Marybeth Wade to a commission of inquiry and ask her Miss who you payed? Who you payed? Where is that?"

"And summon Minister Musa and say, Have you been asleep? But we know you've been asleep, but you've been in an extra deep sleep the past couple months. Where have you been?"
