And while Peyrefitte is maximizing the political mileage his opposition party can get from the irregular gun licensing scandal - it's the commissioner of police who tried to scandal him - when he said as former minister - Peyrefitte insisted on getting a gun license for a resident of Armenia Village - who the Commissioner claims he told him had a criminal history.
So, we asked Peyrefitte to respond to those charges - and he said he's been waiting to make this big reveal - here are tow sides of the story with Peyrefitte form today and COMPOL Chester from UNCUT last month:
Jules Vasquez:
"The commissioner at this point would intervene and say it is you, Michael Peyrefitte, former Minister of National Security, who compelled him to grant a gun license to someone who had a criminal record."
Michael Peyrefitte, Former Minister of Police

"I was waiting for you to bring that up. A person applied to the commissioner of police for a gun license. The Commissioner rejected that person. Under the law, anybody rejected by the Commissioner can write to the Minister to override the Commissioner. "
"What is the purpose for rejecting this person? If you reject this person, then this person can then sue the government. Based on that I wrote to the commissioner and I said I direct you to grant this person the license if you have no evidence to indicate that you shouldn't receive one. He refused to do it and I maintain that he refused to do it because he knows we were going to get voted out directly anyway, so he doesn't have to follow ant directive from me. "
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"And I said to him, then I said, minister, I am not going to issue the license because the man's vetting is bad. I even showed him the vetting. But he was insisting that I issue the gun license, despite the fact that the man has been charged multiple times."
Jules Vasquez:
"Really?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"For crimes of dishonesty. The vetting also stated that the man was a member of a gang. He was involved in cattle rustling. And different things, now how am I going to give a gun license to a man like that?"
Reporter:
"Cause the commissioner is saying that this person had a criminal record."
Michael Peyrefitte, Former Minister of Police
"No. Well the person, the commissioner did not reveal to me any criminal record that the person had."
"Subsequent to the PUP forming government that very same person received a gun license. So how come then he could not give the person under UDP but under PUP the person received the license?"
Now that is what Peyreftte claims - and he also provided the gun license which reports say was first issued on January 14, 2021 and then cancelled on February 17, 2023.
But what does the Commissioner have to say about it? Well, we reached out to him more than once for comment - but up to news time - he had not responded.
