It's been two months and a few days since the Andre Perez sexting scandal broke on August 17th. And, tonight, the Minister of Civil Aviation and the Blue Economy is still on indefinite leave from Cabinet. When will he come back? Or will he come back at all? Tonight, no one seems to know. On August 21st, the Attorney General Anthony Sylvester was given the job to investigate the allegations against Minister Perez and advise the Prime Minister on whether there was any actionable wrongdoing. One month ago he told us he needed a month more and today Sylevstre would only say in a text message that the investigation will be finished, quote, "in due course."
So, there's no fixed deadline and no timeline for a return or even a decision in sight.
Perez told us, quote, "I don't have the date. In the meantime taking the opportunity to work full time in my constituency. I am grateful to my constituents for their support." End quote.
We note also that during this leave of absence, Perez's pay has been cut significantly with the removal of his minister's salary, but, in the House of Representatives, he continues to sit on the front bench with the other ministers and has not been relegated to the back bench.
