And to our surprise, Mortis - who hails originally from the Collet constituency - says that area rep Patrick Faber has stepped in to assist her campaign machinery. It's notable because the Mortis campaign is run by her nephew Ian Jones, who the UDP had briefly selected to replace Faber as standard bearer. The beef there was real, but in the pre-election hug-up, it all seems to have fallen by the wayside:

Dr. Nelma Mortis, UDP Mayoral Candidate

"The Honorable Patrick Farber came lastly on board and he's assisted me greatly. I must say thank you to him publicly in terms of the organization of the election day."

"That's incredible because I mean you have the whole history of the representation in the division and you're the, I'm not sure you're aunt of Ian Jones."

Dr. Nelma Mortis, UDP Mayoral Candidate
"Yes, well that did not put any wedge between the Honorable Farber and I. He was my boss previously and we had a great relationship. We did our masters together. That did not change in any which way for me personally."

"And I think he knows my, what I bring to the table and he and I has worked well together for all these years. And like he so rightly said, it's not about me or him, it's about the people of Belize and about the United Democratic Party and its premise. We are better for Belize."
