And back now to today's press briefing by the Leader of the Opposition, Shyne Barrow also criticized the Briceno Administration for the increase in the cost of vegetables.
We've been reporting on the increase in tomatoes, cabbage and even Habanero was recently selling for $30 dollars a pound in Cayo and sweet pepper for $10 dollars per pound.
Barrow notes that everyday staples in Belizean dishes are being sold at increased prices, so much so that he can hardly enjoy his usual plate of rice and beans:
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"The cost of living, you go to the price of rice, beans, sweet pepper, onion, habanero, I went, every Sunday we donate food to the vulnerable in Mesopotamia and the lady that cooks for me, took care of me as a child, I still go to the home I was born in, every Sunday when I'm in the country, in the district, to eat my Sunday dinner, and I go and I deliver the Sunday dinner. I don't take any pictures of anything, I graduated from that juvenile level of showing people what it is that I'm doing but it is being done. I'm a gentleman that loves my pepper and so no pepper is there and I can't enjoy my 123, my rice and beans, chicken, and salad without pepper and she said but the price of habanero has risen exponentially, the statistics I have here, more than 50%, the price of chicken, beef and pork and other meats by 30%, even for your salad, potato is $3.50 a pound, mayonnaise that used to be $4.90 is now $10, this is the Briceno Administration, things have never been worse."
