Well, we reached out to Director and Chairlady of the LIU, Dominique Norales who gave us a statement rejecting the Commissioner's characterization. She focussed on two things, saying, quote, "First the Behaviour Modification and Conflict Management Services is a unit within the Department of Youth Services under the Ministry of Youth. While they are an important supporting partner of the Leadership Intervention Unit they do not directly participate in the peace building activities and interactions with the client-beneficiaries of our targeted programming. Secondly, the Leadership Intervention Unit...neither I as director and chair nor my officers have participated in the composition of any list of persons to be detained under any State of Emergency Securitization Proclamation. That falls outside of the purview of and operates contrary to the mission and vision of the LIU which is a social response program under the multisectoral citizen security aims of (our ministry)."End quote.

So, she set the record straight - but commissioner still somehow ended up blaming us for what he said:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"I didn't say the chair or LIU I said Behavior Modification, and they work under LU I did not say LIU it was a part of the composition of the list I said Special Branch, G.I.3 and Behavior Modification unit so again we stretch things too far. So the chair lady is right to say what she have said. Again we have to take things for what they are. You all might have twisted something to the chair lady and gave her the impression that I said she is a part of it. She is not a part of that process, no."
