And when Dr Martinez began campaigning, he resigned from his post as CEO - which is mandated in the constitution. So we asked him about his new party colleagues - Thea Garcia, Lorna Mckay, and David Castillo - who have become standard bearers in Corozal Bay, Queen's Square, and Corozal North, respectively. Garcia is the executive director of the National Women's Commission and the General Manager at the Belize Airport Authority. Mckay works at the LIU, and Castillo works with the Transport Department. Should they also resign from their posts? That's what we asked Martinez.

Dr Osmond Martinez, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Trade

"It depends on what the constitution says. For example, the constitution when it comes to being a CEO is that I had to resign. I am not sure what is their terms of reference and the constitution on the job that they're holding at the present."

Courtney Menzies:
"They're government workers though."

Dr Osmond Martinez, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Trade
"Yeah, but I wouldn't know, you would have to do the research and see if the constitution is asking them to step down or to resign because some posts would just be fine by you going on personal leave and not necessarily resign. In my case, the constitution was clear that I had to resign so I took that calculated risk and resigned."
