And, the only thing standing between these two warring factions of the UDP is the police department. Panton's team with the authorities from the land trustee Phillipa Bailey worked all day to get the police to allow them to take over the conference room and the leader's office - but it was to no avail. Today, the Commissioner explained that they now find themselves in a political predicament, one which they maintain that they will not get involved with unless there is a threat to damage property or life. He explained why:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"It's rather an unfortunate situation that the police now find ourselves in the middle of an entanglement with the UDP."

"As you would know that there are two fractions, you have the Shyne fraction, and you have the Tracy fraction. And this morning the fraction from the Alliance for Change descended on the UDP headquarters with the intent to take over the headquarters."

"You would know that the headquarters has been occupied by the leader of the opposition, Mr. Barrow. And so when they descended, they had with them two pieces of documents. There is a land document which shows the transfer of land from the government at the time, the Minister of Natural Resources, Gaspar Vega, and it was transferred to Philippa Bailey as a trustee of the United Democratic Party."

"And then there was a document from Philippa Bailey where she was saying that the land had been held by her in trust for the UDP and she is now handing over the building to the Tracy Panton fraction."

"In other words, they are now displacing the Shyne fraction from the building. As far as the law is concerned, I'm not going to say me, the police are creatures of law and I have said from day one that the police will not going to be used as a pawn by either sides as it relates to the ongoing entanglement."
