12 days ago - two senior PUP officials walked out on the Senate Special Select committee.

Today, a former UDP Minister - no less than the man who signed the definitive agreement - former Minister of Economic Development, Erwin Contreras appeared.

But in the end he did just as badly as the PUP's except maybe he won on style points. Jules Vasquez reports:

Erwin Contreras arrived at the Senate Special Select meeting in shorts - after police picked him up on the strength of a warrant and delivered him to the Senate chamber.

He may have been the first person to take an oath in shorts - and took the chair without his attorney and read a prepared statement

Erwin Contreras
"The matter in front of us, as you are all aware, is sub judice and therefore prohibited from public disclosure. My application is pending before the High Court, which the chair through our attorney has given an undertaking not to issue any warrant or summons until the court determines the matter."

"I therefore will not participate in violating a court order and be compelled to satisfy without the benefit of my attorney."

Janelle Chanona, Chairlady
"Can I direct you to read 14-4 of the Legislative Assembly Ordinance, number 62? Just to read it into the record."

Erwin Contreras
"I will not do anything as such my attorney has stated to me not to answer anything at all if he's not here."

Janelle Chanona, Chairlady
"Mr Contreras, you have been aware that you are to be here...Excuse me, sir, you are here under a warrant."

With that he walked out and would answer no more questions

And with that, Contreras was gone - the former minister who signed the Definitive Agreement without Cabinet approval or knowledge hiding behind what he calls a live matter in court.

And speaking of the shorts - which is not allowed in the parliamentary chambers - Contreras was given time to get some long pants - but one could not be located that would be suitable.

And while Contreras didn't leave because he had to go support.
